Understanding the Wraparound Process
Wraparound focuses on using family strengths and supports to develop a service plan that helps families reach their goals.
Wraparound is a creative process, not a program or service. You and your child, along with other people who are important to your child or family, are a team. Your service coordinator works with your team to develop a plan based on the strengths you and your family already have, as well as the available resources.
Strengths-based plans include:
- things you are good at;
- things you like doing;
- resources your family may already have, like family, neighbors, friends, or even church or sports.
Wraparound includes:
- family focus and family empowerment;
- extended family members and other important people;
- strengths-based assessments;
- unconditional support;
- family developed teams working together;
- needs-driven individualized service plans;
- flexible interventions;
- continuous evaluation of outcomes;
- cultural competence;
- parental ownership of plan;
- community-based services.
